Congratulations to the Honeoye boys basketball team, which won its second straight Section V championship on Saturday!
The Bulldogs clinched the Class C2 title with a 58-52 win over York at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. It’s the ninth overall title for boys basketball in school history and the second time the Bulldogs have won back-to-back titles. They last won consecutive championships with titles in 1990, 1991 and 1992.
Junior L. Washburn scored a game-high 29 points and was named the Class C2 Tournament MVP.
D. Washburn scored 15 points and B. Schneider scored 8 while K. Schmitt scored 4 and G. Goethals scored 2. Schmitt and both Washburn brothers were named to the All-Tournament team for Class C2 and Schneider received the Section V Sportsmanship Award.
Honeoye improves its record to 22-2 and will play Class C1 champion Lyons (22-2) on Wednesday in the Class C state qualifier game. The game is at 7 pm at Finger Lakes Community College and winner advances to the Class C state tournament quarterfinals.
