The HCS Board of Education adopted the below 2025-26 Goals during a Regular Meeting of the Board on November 19, 2025:

2025-2026 Board of Education Goals

  • Ensure that all students demonstrate continuous growth in literacy, mathematics, and overall academic performance across all grade levels.

    • Strengthen reading, writing, and mathematics instruction in all elementary grades through evidence-based practices.
    • Use NYS Test results, Regents data, and local assessments to identify trends, guide instructional decisions, and close achievement gaps.
    • Support professional development to improve differentiated instruction and curriculum alignment.
    • Advance the NYS Portrait of a Graduate attributes — critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and civic responsibility — in all instructional areas.
  • Champion a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that prioritizes mental health, well-being, and belonging for all students and staff.

    • Continue to support comprehensive social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health support districtwide.
    • Provide staff training on trauma-informed and restorative practices.
    • Recognize and celebrate diversity, inclusion, and positive student behavior.
    • Maintain safe, respectful, and welcoming environments across all schools.
  • Promote student readiness for college, career, or military, and citizenship through strong community partnerships and authentic learning experiences.

    • Develop partnerships with local businesses, organizations, military branches, and professionals to provide career exploration.
    • Host career and technical education events, after-school guest speakers, and classroom presentations connecting learning to real-world opportunities.
    • Seek work-based and performance-based pathways to graduation to meet diverse learner needs.
    • Promote Portrait of a Graduate skills through project-based learning experiences.
  • Enhance communication, transparency, and community engagement to strengthen trust and unity across the district.

    • Expand communication methods including hard copy newsletters, mailings, postings in common areas, and school invitations for all residents.
    • Ensure information is accessible, inclusive, and transparent for all community members.
    • Celebrate district achievements and highlight community involvement in school programs.
    • Promote opportunities for dialogue and shared planning between the district, community, and Board of Education.
