📚 New Policy: Student Use of Internet-Enabled Devices
In alignment with the New York State Distraction-Free Schools Law, Honeoye CSD is committed to maintaining a focused, respectful, and safe school environment. To support this, personal internet-enabled devices will not be allowed during the school day for students in grades K-12.
🚫 What’s Not Allowed During the School Day?
Personal internet-enabled devices, including but not limited to:
Cell phones
Smart watches
Earbuds
Tablets
Gaming devices
These must be turned off and stored in a school-designated location from the first bell to the last bell.
This policy does not apply to school-issued devices used for learning.
🕒 When Is Device Use Allowed?
✅ After school dismissal
✅ With explicit permission from school staff
✅ On field trips or events—at staff discretion
✅ Before or after the school day
📌 What Parents & Guardians Can Do:
✔️ Review this policy with your child before school starts
✔️ Use the school office to contact your child during the day
✔️ Pick up a confiscated device if you're notified
✔️ Encourage device-free learning at home and at school

Devices are stored securely until picked up. Suspension is not a consequence for device use alone, but may apply if a student refuses to follow directions.
🔐 Storage & Procedures (Grades 6-12):
Each student will receive a key and assigned storage unit on the first day of school.
Students must store their devices before 1st period and retrieve them after dismissal.
Students leaving school during the day (e.g., appointments, FLTCC, lunch privileges) may retrieve and re-store their device appropriately.

Non-urgent messages will be passed along during breaks. Urgent messages will result in the student being called to the office.

On the first day of school, students will:
Receive their key and secure their devices in the foyer before starting the school day.
