For the eighth time in school history and the first time in 28 years, the Honeoye boys basketball team is a Section V champion.
The Bulldogs defeated Finger Lakes West rival South Seneca, 54-27, on Friday to win the Section V Class C3 title at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. It’s the first title for Honeoye since 1997, when coach Robb Delisanti was a senior with Honeoye and won MVP honors for the tournament.
A large crowd of Honeoye supporters made the trip to downtown Rochester to cheer on the Bulldogs and the Bulldog Nation banner flew proudly after each basket and then after the final horn that sealed the victory.
Landon W. scored a game-high 17 points and was named tournament MVP. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Owen R. and Owen C.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 in New York State in Class C, have won 22 straight games after losing their season opener to South Seneca. They’ll play again on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at Dansville High with the chance to advance to the state quarterfinals in Class C. Wednesday’s opponent will be determined on Monday night.
Also on Friday, the boys were recognized as the Board 60 Thomas Emmanual Sportsmanship Award winner for the season. This prestigious award is voted on by game officials and is given to one school in each classification which exhibits “the highest degree of sportsmanship, character and ethics among its coaches, players and spectators.”
Congratulations to the Bulldogs for a fantastic season that’s not quite finished!
