Honeoye's Coach Stewart Named to Section V Cross Country Hall of Fame

Bob Stewart has helped quite a few Honeoye athletes shine, so it is quite appropriate for the longtime running coach to get his time in the spotlight.

Stewart was inducted into the Section V Cross Country Hall of Fame on Saturday. The induction was held at Letchworth State Park following the Section V Class D championship races.

Stewart, who retired from coaching cross country and indoor track at Honeoye following last season but remains in the district as a Special Education teacher, was greeted and cheered Saturday morning by a variety of Honeoye fans. Former runners, along with retired and current Honeoye staff, made the trip to Letchworth to applaud Stewart’s accomplished career as a coach that spans 30 years.

Stewart helped coach the Honeoye boys to four Section V championships (2012, 2014, 2015, 2020) and the girls to two sectional titles (2017, 2020). Honeoye also won more than 20 Wayne-Finger Lakes West League championships, including a run of 10 straight for the boys (2011-2021).

Stewart also coached several runners who qualified for the state meet and joins his father, former Dansville coach Jim Stewart, in the Section V Cross Country Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to coach Stewart for this enormous honor and thank you for your commitment and dedication to make our young Bulldogs better both in the classroom and out. You make us all #HoneoyeProud!
