Q&A with Superintendent Pfluke

Natalie Pfluke is adjusting to her new role at Honeoye Central, but she is hardly a new face.

Mrs. Pfluke was appointed as the district’s new Superintendent on June 24 but spent the past four years as Elementary School Principal here in Honeoye.

Before that, she was a teacher and administrator in the Rochester City School District and in Greece, so her experience in classrooms and in the office made her an ideal fit as the new leader for our district.

Mrs. Pfluke, who lives in Webster with her husband and children, took some time to answer questions about her vision for the district. Whether it’s highlighting the achievements of Honeoye students, connecting with the community and serving as a conduit between parents and teachers, Mrs. Pfluke is eager to make Honeoye shine!

  1. What excites you the most about your new role as superintendent?

The opportunity to work with our teachers and community members to foster a positive learning environment and to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.

  1. You worked in large districts before Honeoye, so what drew you to the smaller setting here?

This community feels like family to me. Honeoye’s smaller setting offers a unique chance to build close-knit relationships and truly get to know the staff, students and their families. I love the sense of community and the ability to be more hands-on, making a direct impact in a way that’s often harder to do in larger districts.

  1. You’ve mentioned your belief that all students deserve a “high-quality education.” Why is that so important in today’s world?

A high-quality education is crucial today because it equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate our ever-changing world. It helps level the playing field, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.

  1. You’ve also talked before about the importance of involving the community in the education process. Explain how you want to make that happen.

By creating open channels for communication and collaboration. By fostering partnerships with local organizations and opening up our school, we can build a strong support network that enhances student learning and connects community members to our school.

  1. What are some of your proudest moments as an educator?
  • Seeing students become genuinely excited about a topic and take the initiative to explore it further on their own
  • Being part of a positive school environment where students, staff, and community members feel valued, heard, safe to express themselves, and are consistently supporting one another
  • When a student’s resilience reminds me of the importance of empathy, overcoming obstacles, and in never giving up. Every interaction matters.

  1. What was your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject in school was definitely math! I loved the way it challenged me to think critically and solve problems, plus I had an amazing teacher who inspired me to pursue a career in education.

  1. What is your meal of choice and where would you eat it?

My meal of choice would be my grandma’s homemade sauce. I’d enjoy it at her kitchen table, surrounded by great aunts and uncles, listening to them share their childhood memories. I miss those days for sure.

  1. When you have spare or down time, what can we find you doing?

Spending time with my family and friends. Whether it’s cooking with my mom, exploring new places with my kids, or just hanging out with my friends. Those moments are really important to me!

  1. What music will we find you listening to in your car during your commute?

Country!

  1. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Making thoughtful decisions delivered with kindness can have a profound impact on the outcome. It fosters connection, empathy, and a more positive environment. Plus, I have found that small acts of kindness create a ripple effect, inspiring others to do the same. I see it everyday!

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this community

Thank you Honeoye
