Candidates Vie for Three Board of Education Seats
HCS is governed by a seven member Board of Education elected by eligible voters in the district. Members are volunteer public officials and serve without pay. Board members must carry out the duties required by law, the Board of Regents and the NYS Commissioner of Education. This year eligible voters in our district will elect three candidates to fill the following terms: Two (2) three (3) year terms commencing July 1, 2022 expiring on June 30, 2025 and one (1) one (1) year term commencing July 1, 2022 expiring on June 30, 2023. The two (2) candidates with the highest number of votes each will be appointed to a three (3) year term. The candidate with the third highest number of votes will be appointed to the one (1) year term.

  • James Sykes

Voter Eligibility:

  • You must be a United States citizen.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must be a resident of the school district at least 30 days prior to the vote.
  • You do not need to own property in the district

Absentee Ballots:

A qualified voter of the HCS school district is eligible to vote by absentee ballot under the following circumstances:

  • Voter is out of the country or city while the polls are open;
  • Voter is confined in a hospital or jail;
  • Voter has a physical disability or illness;

Voter is on vacation (includes retirees). To receive an absentee ballot, applicant must submit an application to Jennifer Green, District Clerk. Th application must be received seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.
