HCS Secondary Principal Search Process Dear HCS Community,This afternoon the Honeoye Central School District Board of Education accepted the resignation of our Secondary Principal, Addie Klaehn. Mrs. Klaehn has accepted a position at Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES with a tentative start date of December 13, 2021. In her letter to the district, Mrs. Klaehn stated that “This new position will allow me to achieve a more appropriate work-life balance” and that “the staff, students and community will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life.” I hope you will join me in wishing Mrs. Klaehn continued success and happiness as she continues her professional journey, albeit outside of the POUND. She has had a tremendous impact here as Bulldog, teacher, instructional coach, leader, colleague, mentor and friend... When it comes to school related factors influencing academic achievement, research suggests that the role of the principal is exceeded only by the quality of teachers working directly with students. As Mrs. Klaehn prepares for her new opportunity, I wanted to take a minute to pass along important information related to the Honeoye Secondary School Principal search. To guide our hiring process, we will be putting together a leadership profile for our next Secondary Principal. I hope that students, families, staff and community members will consider taking this brief survey between now and 11/24 to share the qualities/leadership attributes believed to be most important for the position and a best fit for HCS. In addition to coordination of internal interview committee groups, the district would like to secure 6 - 8 parent/guardians and 6 - 8 students to serve on stakeholder interview committee groups. If you are an HCS secondary parent/guardian and interested in serving on a parent stakeholder interview committee, please send me a quick email ([email protected]) at some point on or before November 24. To participate in this process, you will need to be able to attend a question-writing session (which will be scheduled for 6:00 pm on November 30) and commit to interviewing candidates for potentially a full day on December 6. More detailed information will be provided once the committees have been identified. If you are an HCS secondary student and interested in serving on a student stakeholder interview committee, please send me a quick email ([email protected]) at some point on or before November 24. To participate in this process, you will need to be able to attend a question-writing session (which will be scheduled for 2:10 pm on November 30) and commit to interviewing candidates for potentially a full day on December 6. December 6 - 8: Reference Checks on Finalists December 9: Finalist Interviews with Superintendent and BOE Introductions December 15: Board of Education Appointment of HCS Secondary Principal On or About January 15: HCS Secondary Principal Start Date To ensure that all secondary administrative responsibilities are covered until we have a replacement identified, HCS will be welcoming Kathy Hargis back on December 6 to serve as Interim Secondary Principal. Kathy Hargis was identified as a highly qualified candidate to support HCS with unequivocal recommendation from our WFL District Superintendent, Dr. Vicky Ramos. Some of you might recall that Mrs. Hargis served the HCS community well from October 6, 2020, through January 11, 2021 (in the interim of our appointment of Natalie Pfluke as Elementary Principal). Mrs. Hargis enthusiastically rejoins the HCS secondary school team bringing a plethora of administrative experience spanning nearly three decades at both the building and district level. Most recently, she has served in interim roles at the building level for Geneva CSD, Honeoye CSD, the Rochester CSD, and as a consultant to the Special Education Director for the Greater Amsterdam School District.
