Coronavirus Update

Good Afternoon,

Student safety and wellness is our number one priority at Honeoye Central School District. Given the influx of inquiry and concern surrounding COVID-19, I am reaching out this afternoon to provide you the latest update.

Regional Update:

It was brought to the attention of WFL BOCES that the Public Health Commissioner of the Monroe County Department of Public Health put out a statement urging the public in Monroe County, at the discretion of the organizer, to consider cancellation of gatherings of more than 50 people.  W-FL BOCES has been in contact with the Public Health Departments in our 5-county region (Ontario, Seneca, Yates, Wayne, Cayuga).

The guidance that we have been provided from the 5 County Public Health Departments is that we are currently at low risk.  The current recommendation is to follow the CDC guidance of preventative good hygiene practices.  Currently, none of the public health departments (Seneca, Wayne, Yates, Ontario, Cayuga) have recommended cancellation of events for groups over 50 people or more.

Local Update:

HCS reached out to Ontario County Health this morning regarding our upcoming events.  At this time, we are advised to exercise discretion and to proceed with scheduled events as planned, citing the fact that we continue to be in a very low risk area. There are no confirmed cases in our district or in our county.  In the event there is a confirmed case at HCS or in Ontario County, we will work directly with Ontario County Health to determine next steps.  Please note that Ontario County Health continues to stress the importance of handwashing and students / staff staying home if ill.

Travel Update:

The CDC issued a level 3 travel alert recommending that Americans avoid all non-essential travel to 29 countries. Here is a link to the Level 3 warning, which includes a list of the countries: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/warning/coronavirus-europe.

This situation is fluid and evolving by the hour.  As we continue to receive information, I will provide you "real time" updates.  As always, use your best discretion and please reach out to me as necessary for support and guidance.

Warmest Regards,

Bridget Ashton
